An ideal trip for those looking for both game and beach activities, suitable for families and groups of friends looking for a great variety of things to do. We start by visiting the picturesque mountain region of Tzaneen, visiting the legendary Cycad Forest of Queen Modjadji. The next day we continue to the most northern regions of the Kruger National Park at Punda Maria, where the rustic camp sets the tone for the rest of the tour. Situated amongst the rocky outcrops and tall trees the smaller game and birds hide in wait for you to pass. Your Safari Guys will map out the route you take over the next few days. Crossing the border at Pafuri, we make our way into the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier National Park where the roads vary from compacted dirt roads to sandy tracks in the riverbeds. Vast open spaces coupled with occasional rocky outcrops await you. There are some larger river crossings which can be very challenging in the rainy season. We drive alongside the Limpopo border to Mapai, where we cross the Limpopo River and exit the Park and make our way to the coastline.
A brief trip further south takes us to Inhambane. Beautiful beaches, awesome scuba diving, a small harbour town showing both Arab and Portuguese influence. Inhambane to Bilene is a short drive. Bilene is a small resort situated on a beautiful lagoon.
The road inland to Massingir
has some real challenges – from dealing with the locals to the
bustling little villages!
The campsite is at the dam and offers fantastic bird watching opportunities. The road to the Giriyondo varies between sandy tracks, rocky stretches, good gravel and some washed out sections. Yet again the weather may make this trip a little more challenging should there have been heavy rains. On arrival at the border we make way into Kruger, where we overnight at Letaba. Our last evening will allow us to compare experiences, highlights and lowlights, before heading on home. |

Description We start our trip in the Kruger National Park / Letaba Camp, where your Safari Guy will give you comprehensive detail on how the next few days will proceed. We make our way to Giriyondo Border post, just north of Letaba, where after our border crossing we make way into the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier National Park. Vegetation is weather dependant, and at times can be lush and dense. Road driving varies from sandy tracks in river beds to good gravel and on occasion washed out roads. Making our way northwards we head to Mapai gate in the northern regions of the Park. There are some serious 4X4 routes in the region, and we will spend our remaining time exploring these – extended driving with loads of challenging sections.
Once the tans are complete and the fishing done, we head south to Maputo where we get to refresh ourselves overnight before departing for home the next day. |
