Starting in Johannesburg we first visit the small town of Kuruman. This was the base used by David Livingstone before he "discovered" the Victoria Falls. In the Augrabies National Park, we enjoy a sundowner whilst listening to the rumble of the Gariep River cascading down the 80m waterfall into the gorge below. Entering the Kgalagadi at Twee Rivieren we overnight there and re-stock for the next few days.

We then move northward towards Nossob Camp. The waterholes on route provide good photographic opportunities of not only the game and birds but also the stark landscapes and wiry flora. On arrival at nossob we replenish for the next 4 days as we will be at remote camp sites. The rugged road eastwards to Bitterpan and Mabuasehube is a test of the 4X4. Taking the remote roads, which are one vehicle wide, require the roads to be one way and are strictly 4X4 access only. Soft dunes and long grass are but just the start of the challenge, but the scenery and the remoteness of the areas make it worthwhile.

The western regions of the National Park have many waterholes and hence offer bigger game viewing, however the eastern part of the National Park has more unspoilt rugged scenery with open landscapes and shrubby bushveld. Moving towards Mabuasehube you encounter the 3 pans of the area, these along with white and red dunes offer very different scenery.  There are wilderness trails in and around Mabuasehube offering extreme 4X4 activities. Departing Mabuasehube we continue to move eastwards into Botswana; overnight at Martins Drift before returning to South Africa and home.
